Healing Pain Naturally

About me:
I am a 39 year old stay at home mom of 2 young children.  I had several chronic illnesses and was in chronic pain for over 6 years.  I used methods I learned from studying The Law of Attraction and the mind/body connection to heal myself.  I now am on no pain killers and am healthier than I have been in MANY years.  I am trying to get my story out about how I healed and about how people can self-heal and manage pain naturally.

I am Grateful there are so many Natural Tools to Heal Pain

I am happy to see that more and more means of healing pain naturally are gaining in popularity.  When I was ill I was told to manage my pain by taking pills and no other ways were offered.  Now that I am healed I intend to stay that way and have been actively researching natural means to stay healthy.  2 of the illnesses I had left me in severe chronic pain.  Fibromyalgia and Benign Hypermobility Syndrome are known to cause excruciating daily pain and no "known" cure is available.

If you have been keeping up with my blogs, articles and site you know that I healed myself through mostly mind over body means but I had to take the time to work on my physical strength as well.  Different means will appeal to different people.  Different types of pain require different kinds of relief.  I found walking and light stretching to help me.  Also relaxing with meditation and visits to the chiropractor every 3 weeks were necessities for my healing.  I love my chiropractor and found that his way of thinking and the things he recommended were crucial in my recovery.  In recent studies I met another chiropractor who totally encapsulates WHAT a doctor should really be like and I go into more detail about Dr. Michael Shea on my blog -- I encourage you to check out his site and his philosophies to help you find a doctor that is right for you.

I was very interested to learn about a tool that chiropractors have been using for 25 years.  It has helped tons of people heal their pain.  The Embodi-Cloud which can be found at naturalpainrelief.com makes you feel like you are floating on air and realigns your body.  There are tons of testimonials on their site and it looks like the perfect tool to use while meditating to relax both your mind and body completely.

There are so many natural means to heal your pain these days.  Please try and find what is right for you, make sure you have good doctors, make sure you have tools you can be excited enough about to continue to use and please try and limit the pain medications to what is ABSOLUTELY necessary.

Deep Sleep can Help Heal Pain

When I was ill the doctors told me there was no way to heal my pain and that I could just manage it. I was in the sleep/pain cycle so many people get trapped in when ill. You can’t sleep because you are in pain and your body can’t heal itself because of the lack of deep sleep.

With many illnesses insomnia is one of the “symptoms”. There are many causes from the sleep/pain cycle to the simple worrying about health issues and the other way your health is affecting your life as well as everyone else’s life around you. You need to reach a deep sleep in order for the body to begin to heal itself. I usually had no trouble falling asleep but would wake at 2AM and not be able to go back to sleep. My body never reached that healing point and from 2AM - 6AM I would go over in my head, how badly I felt, that I wasn’t comfortable, that I probably wouldn’t be able to get back to sleep and all the worries about what the lack of sleep would mean for me and my family the next day. We all know how you feel after a night with little sleep.. foggy, grumpy, stressed out — not a good way to start the day!

First I tried the natural route to deep sleep; Valerian root (yuck) and melatonin (didn’t work consistently). My doctors said that most people with Fibromyalgia and Benign Hypermobility Syndrome found relief from their sleep issues with a low dose antidepressant — I refused. I finally agreed to the “sleeping aide” route and having always been afraid of dependency of any kind would only take a pill if I had already gone 2 nights with less than a few hours of sleep. This wasn’t enough and I found on the nights I did not take the pills I was having an even harder time staying asleep.

This article from The Ledger on August 20th written by Sarah Mahoney on Speed Healing: A rapid Road to recovery states: “When animals are sick or injured, they slink off to the comfort of their nest or lair until they’re all better. And you? Dream on. You usually have to make breakfast, show up at work, and retrieve the dry cleaning — no matter how you feel. Getting better is just one more entry on your checklist of things to do.

Fortunately, researchers have identified steps you can take immediately to bounce back faster. For starters, you should get adequate sleep, a good 8 to 9 hours each night. During the first 2 hours of sleep, your body experiences a spike in the production of growth hormone, which is vital to all the body’s healing processes, says Elizabeth G. Motyka, MD, co-author of “The Rapid Recovery Handbook.” To read this article in its entirety go to: http://health.theledger.com/article/20070820/TOPSTORY/4724/-1/RSS2&source=RSS

I have found several NATURAL methods that help me achieve a good night’s sleep. I use guided meditation audio books such as Deepak Chopra’s Guided Healing Meditations. It relaxes my mind and body before drifting off to bed and ensures a good night’s sleep. If I wake up in the middle of the night I won’t hesitate to push the play button again — I will drift off within seconds of hearing Deepak’s gentle voice. There are also several self-hypnosis programs available that will relax your mind before bed. I also have heard of several more proven sleep systems that guarantee a good night’s sleep or your money back.

Whichever you choose to use I hope you choose to give the natural routes a try. They can help to heal your pain by ensuring you a good night’s sleep AND making sure you aren’t becoming dependent on any sleep aides in the process.

"Biofeedback can
Help to Heal Pain
"

Biofeedback has been used for years in helping people to heal their pain and increase their well-being.

As the Mayo Clinic Point out "Biofeedback uses your mind to control your body. Biofeedback is a type of complementary and alternative medicine called mind-body therapy. Using feedback from a variety of monitoring procedures and equipment, a biofeedback specialist will try to teach you to control certain involuntary body responses, such as:
-- Brain activity
-- Blood pressure
-- Muscle tension
-- Heart rate
Once you learn to recognize and control these responses, you can use biofeedback to help treat a wide range of mental and physical health problems. Even if you don't have a specific disease or condition, biofeedback may help your overall health and sense of well-being."  You can visit the Mayo Clinic online to learn more about all the illnesses they have seen biofeedback heal.

Being the total computer geek I have always been...  when I heard Deepak Chopra had a computer program where you can learn the biofeedback technique that came with a biofeedback reader to plug into my USB on my computer -- I was more than intrigued.  I also found out that the other two doctors involved were the other forerunners in the mind/body field.  Dean Ornish, M.D., and Andrew Weil teamed with Deepak Chopa in creating this product.  I immediately started talking about it and was lucky enough to receive it for my birthday last year.

From the first time I played The Wild Divine as a birthday present last year and absolutely loved it.  In it you are exploring beautiful lands with gorgeous relaxing music while your fingers are in a biofeedback device.  It has the feel of part movie part adventure game.  You have to train your mind to relax in order to complete tasks in the game.  There is some training in the beginning and it is very valuable.  You feel such a sense of accomplishment the first time you can make things hover in midair (in the game obviously) with your mind.  It puts you in a very relaxing state and trains your body in how to achieve that state quickly.  It also shows you how much you can change the way your body feels by using the techniques you have to demonstrate.

Since the original they have come out with other versions as well.  All are wonderful and some come with free music CD's along with it.

I always see myself much more relaxed the day after I use The Wild Divine.  It is a fun way to learn biofeedback techniques and it will help to heal your pain. Hope you enjoy The Wild Divine as much as I do.

Swimming To Heal Pain & Exercise

I realized the healing properties of water when I was pregnant.  I was 8 months pregnant with my first born (my son) and was frequenting the town pool where we then lived in NJ because my husband was teaching diving lessons there.  I felt such relief when I was in the water and I was weightless.  All of my aches and pains would leave me suddenly and I was able to "get comfortable" which was VERY rare as my husband would attest to! : )

Years later we have our own pool and hot tub.  When I was very ill my body would instantly relax once in the hot tub and I could let my limbs float instead of how I usually felt (like I was carrying around a heavy load of bricks).   I was sensitive to the pool temperature  (we have a joke in my house that I like it senior senior temperature which would be about how a 125 year old might like it -- not too much cooler than a  hot tub!).  Again, the weightlessness allowed for stretching that I could not do outside the pool when I was ill.  Swimming is relaxing and works all your muscles and you get to feel relax and feel the water surrounding you.

Swimming works your whole body, improving cardiovascular conditioning, muscle strength, endurance, posture, and flexibility all at the same time. Your cardiovascular system in particular benefits because swimming improves your body’s use of oxygen without overworking your heart.

We are lucky to have a pool but living upstate, NY seriously limits the time we get to use it.  By investing in an endless pool you can have the luxury of swimming year round inside or out.  It's great exercise and great for the mind as well.  Whether it be swimming laps or peacefully floating and relaxing.  If we didn't have the pool AND the hot tub -- you can bet what I'd be asking for this Christmas from my husband! Just ANOTHER great tool for healing what ails you AND for getting stronger!
